What

The nonprofit health organization, Fibroid Relief, will host a free, public information event, Fibroid Relief At Last, to educate women in the Los Angeles area about uterine fibroids and current, non-invasive treatment options, including focused ultrasound.

Attendees will have their questions answered by a panel of medical experts, including gynecologists, holistic experts and radiologists, who specialize in treating uterine fibroids. They will also hear from a patient who lived with uterine fibroids and was successfully treated with MR-guided Focused Ultrasound, a non-invasive therapy that combines MRI techniques with focused, high-intensity ultrasound waves.

Why

One in four women in the U.S. is suffering from uterine fibroids, which are non-cancerous tumors of the uterus that often cause intense discomfort, bloating and severe pelvic pain. Previously, a woman might undergo a hysterectomy to treat her fibroid problems, but invasive surgery is no longer the only treatment option for these women. A panel of UCLA clinicians, a naturopathic physician and a patient will discuss newer, less-invasive treatment options.

Who

Speakers include Dr. Chris Tarnay (Gynecologist); Dr. Michael Johnson (Gynecologist); Dr. Steve Raman (Focused Ultrasound); Dr. Cheryl Hoffman (Uterine Fibroid Embolization); Sarah Murphy, N.D. (Holistic Medicine) and Erin Shull (uterine fibroid patient recently featured on the daytime TV talk show, "The Doctors").
