Baron & Budd, P.C. issued a health alert today for career painters and others who may have worked with painting products. These workers may be at risk for deadly diseases, such as mesothelioma, that are caused by asbestos exposure. Baron & Budd attorney John Langdoc noted the rise of cancer risks for these individuals after working with a number of affected families.

"Many career painters are just now seeing the effects of asbestos exposure because the period of time between the exposure and the cancer diagnosis can be so long," said Langdoc. "Sadly, many of these career painters aren't even aware that they ever worked around asbestos."

Those who have worked in the painting industry may have come in contact with a number of asbestos-containing products such as texturing paint, block filler and drywall compounds and not know that these products contained asbestos.

"Some painters may have only small amounts of exposure but they are still at risk," says Langdoc. "Because many of the asbestos-containing products they used were not labeled properly, painters often thought they were not working with asbestos. Sadly, that is not the case."

Baron & Budd has fought on behalf of mesothelioma patients for over 30 years and recently won an $11 million verdict for a Dallas career painter who was exposed to asbestos-containing products through his work and later developed mesothelioma.
