This year Lnoppen's 2nd Annual Turkey Hospital Expansion Summit featured 42 of the most prominent, local and international industry leaders and government officials providing informative and inspiring discussions to discover new strategies & technologies that can assist in building a state-of-the-art healthcare infrastructure. The two day program created a platform for government officials, project owners, construction companies, doctors, management groups and hospital owners to enter discussion with consultants, architects, medical companies, equipment providers and service groups, in order to better understand the progress, to learn from the owner's recent experience and share know how to support the project's further development.

Apart from general healthcare outlook, the event touched various topics such as: PPP projects, financing, anticipating and minimizing risks, operational issues, healthcare management, project management, raising standards, digital healthcare, disputes, design, facility management, medical tourism, latest technological solutions and more. Throughout the event, participants contributed and shared insight defined various additional topics which should be in the 3rd Annual Turkey Hospital Expansion Summit program. Dr. Hasan Kuş, Founding Partner of ValueHealth started the event as the Chairperson of the Series with a opening speech. His years of experience in the healthcare industry make him a well-respected figure and the delegates listened intently to his comments and evaluation.

The 2015 welcome keynote address was given by Dr. Şuayip Birinci, Deputy Undersecretary at the Ministry of Health who provided insight on the development of Healthcare Projects in Turkey, emphasizing the importance of these groundbreaking projects and governments dedication to enhance domestic healthcare infrastructure. In his speech, he has emphasized various key data and current issues such as high patient flow in hospitals (especially during primetime hours reaching approx. 83%) where he indicated every stakeholder has a role to play and issues to tackle in upcoming years. Considering, only in 2 Ankara Hospitals around 100.000 people presence is expected, managing the process might be more challenging than managing the healthcare. His lecture was quoted throughout the event and laid a foundation for many of the discussion panels.

His speech was followed by Mr. Çağan Sezer, Head of RPD Sales at Roche Diagnostics Turkey presenting Value of IVD for the Healthcare System. Mr. Orhan Barut, Vice Chairman & Senior Executive for PPP, Healthcare Projects at Türkerler Holding was next on the stage as keynote speaker sharing the experience and perspective of Investor: Risk and Risk Management. During his presentation, he emphasized the risks as during tender, investment operation where he focused on the investment period and pointed out what kind of drastic results might arise if you change your subcontractors.

Following Leaders Panel was lead by Mr. Fuat Besceli, Enterprise Director at Abbott Laboratories. His guests; Ms. Hale Özsoy, Principal at Turkven Private Equity Board Member at Medical Park Hospitals Group, Mr. Gideon Tilburgs, Investment Director at John Laing, Mr. Oğuz Öner Boran, Business Development Manager PPP/ City Hospitals at Siemens Healthcare and Mr. İsmail Dernek, Vice President, Healthcare Services at Bozlu Holding shared insight & perspectives as various stakeholders of the industry to evaluate the development of the healthcare market and projects, shared their views on how to support future investment decisions.

After the first tea break Dr. İhsan Şahin, Board Chairman of Sıla Health Group introduced the management of the risk regarding operational period as a keynote speaker. His extremely detailed presentation, was an eye opener for many, pointed out poor management of those risks, such as the 'Y Factor', might become the nightmare of the project owner if the earlier projections are not in par with reality when the city hospitals become operational. Following his lecture Mr. David Myers, Director, Global Strategic Marketing at Spacelabs Healthcare presented their solutions for a safer and healthier World as an research & development giant and their expertise in managing complexity.

Following finance session consisted from two discussion panels seeking out the answer if we do need a bigger ladder. "Lender`s Perspective: Analysing the risk and bankability of the healthcare projects" was held under the chairmanship of Dr. Ahmet Keşli, Founding President of International PPP Platform Turkey in conversation with Mrs. Şule Topçu Kılıç, Deputy Country Director Turkey at EBRD, Mr. Peter Aurich, Managing Director, Head of Infrastructure Turkey, Project & Commodity Finance at UniCredit Bank Austria and Mr. Ozgür Pehlivan, Vice President at International PPP Platform Turkey, seeking the answers on how do we overcome key barriers.

The second panel chaired by Mr. Çağdaş Evrim Ergün, Partner, Attorney at Law at Çakmak Avukatlık Bürosu focusing on "Sponsor & Administration Perspective" exchanging insights with Dr. Atty. Ramazan Arıtürk, Founding Partner of Elmadağ Law Office, Ms. Büşra Ünaldı, Associate Director, Financial Advisory at Yapı ve Kredi Bankası A.Ş. and Ms. Sıla Cılız İnanç, Deputy General Manager at Akfen Holding discussing how can pitfalls be avoided & what needs to be done for the long-term success.

One of the most popular speaker at the event was Mr. Hüseyin Arslan, Chairman of the Board at YDA Group who shared his experience as a pioneer investor involved in the healthcare PPP projects since the very beginning. His frank attitude and way he evaluated the situation was appreciated and found inspirational. He pointed out the time is running very quickly and as the Yozgat project will be operational, it seems to be many issues to solve and much time left. The full cooperation and collaboration of stakeholders is an must to tackle the foreseen / expected issues on the horizon. Following his lecture Mr. Erdinç Eroğlu, General Manager of Beckman Coulter Turkey gave a presentation on Clinical Laboratory in Turkey City Hospital Context; Deep Dive Into PPP Laboratory Concept.

A lively session on "Raising the Standards" was then held under the chair of Mr. Yener Gül, Senior Change Management Consultant at Ministry of Health. During the panel there were 3 presentations; "HIMS & Productivity: Operational Benefits as a tool of productivity" presented by Mr. Serkan Atagün, Project and Software Development Director at Ministry of Health, "Strategic HR Management in Hospitals" by Dr. Julia Schaefer, Director, Health Care Executive Search at Kienbaum Executive Consultants and "Resources available for healthcare executives: Quality and DRG" by Dr. Hasan Güler, Deputy Director General of the Health Services General Directorate at Ministry of Health. Following presentations a sincere debate gave birth to a fruitful session. Following the networking break, final session of the day "Digital Healthcare" searched for the answers under the chairmanship of Ms. Esra Öz, Broadcast Editor at Sağlık ve İnsan Dergisi. How mHealth will transform the industry? What kind of tools are ready for the patients & providers? How far away are we in bringing the medical facilities to the communities outside the walls? were discussed following the presentations of the panellist. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Elgiz Yılmaz, Vice Dean, Faculty of Communications at Galatasaray Üniversitesi contributed with "Digital solutions for Healthcare Management and Communication Models."

Ms. Esra Aydemir, Media & Communications Group Manager of Memorial Health Group with Digital Communications and Mr. Murat Eren, Board Member at Healthcare Informatics Association | CTO at Medicana Hospital Group with Future of Healthcare presentations which were consisting of revolutionary trends and technologies.

Day two had a very lively start with the opening remarks and a critical look on by the Chairman. Dr. Gregor Grubhofer, Attorney at Law at Baier Partners was immediately after him on the stage with "Claim Management on International construction Projects" focusing on prevention and resolution of disputes presentation which was carefully followed by the project owners. As one of the project stakeholders Mr. Ömer Ünlü, General Coordinator of NKY Architects shared insight and experience on Project Management, Consultancy & Monitoring for Complex Projects. His presentation skills crowned the well prepared presentation in the early hours of the day. Mr. Alexander White, Executive Manager, Buildings at Dar Engineering gave a presentation before the tea break on the complexities of creating a "State of the art" Medical City with existing and new build projects providing case study examples such as King Fahad Medical City, Riyadh & Abha.

Following networking break Prof. Willem Bruijn, Senior Partner of Baumschlager Eberle Group spoke on Hospital of the Future with references from the past. His approach was unique and visionary. Especially his evaluation of sustainable development of healthcare infrastructure with basic elements and principles of architecture and design were truly impressive. The momentum kept growing with Mr. David Pitman, Director & Healthcare Business Leader for UK, Middle East & Africa at Arup, whom delivered a presentation on Healthcare design & the application of BIM and joined the following design panel with Mr. Bruijn, which kicked off under the chairmanship of Dr. Kaan Özberk, President at KCS Consulting. First Mr. Mert Kayasü, Partner, Designer, Project Manager at MTK Architects-Consultants laid a foundation with a presentation on "Design methodology of healthcare buildings". Mr. Robert W. Nowlan, Project Manager at Turner International also contributed to the groundwork with a presentation on "Future of hospital, customer experience and design trends" insights. Participants of the session brainstormed on the issues like: "How do we design the evolving healthcare landscape the future hospital project? How do we model customer experience? How do architecture, design and engineering details influence the work of medical staff and the experience of patients? Which trends are becoming must have in the hospital design. Are we designing hospital in city or city in hospital?

Following networking Mr. Özgür Dumlu, Managing Partner of GHS Global Healthcare Services was on the stage demonstrating Facility Management & Biomedical Equipment Procurement Process. Mr. Abdulrahman Al Nuaim, Partner at Proton International Middle East presented Bringing Affordable Proton Therapy to Turkey just before the last panel of the event which was moderated by the chairman of the event, Dr. Hasan Kuş, whom invited Dr. Oğuz Engiz, Doctor | Hospital Manager from Association of Private Hospitals and Healthcare Organizations to deliver his presentation on Can Turkey Join the Champions of World Health, Mr. Ümit Uysal, General Manager at Korel Thermal and the President of Thermal & Medical Spa Group at Turkish Healthcare Travel Council to present thermal capacities of Turkey and Ms. Semra Baysan, Health Care Management and Marketing, Independent Consultant and Lecturer at Okan University to elaborate on online narratives to enhance the medical and health tourism potential of Turkey. The event was finalized the closing remarks of the chairman and farewell networking tea.
