Medicaid provides free or low-cost health coverage to more than 50 million children, families, pregnant women, and people with disabilities. Medicare is the federal health insurance program for people who are 65 or older, certain younger people with disabilities, and people with End-Stage Renal Disease. The State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) is a partnership between the Federal and state governments that provides health coverage to uninsured children whose families earn too much to qualify for Medicaid, but too little to afford private coverage.
