Tesco Takes The Biscuit For Charity - Muscular Dystrophy Campaign, UK
The specially-made biscuits will feature the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign's distinctive kite logo in icing and will be available to buy from the in store bakeries of over 100 Tesco stores across the country until the end of February 2010. Each biscuit will be sold for 79p with 5p donated to the charity's Giving children equipment to be independent campaign.
This campaign aims to raise £3 million to provide vital, specialist equipment, such as powered wheelchairs, electric page turners, and mobile arm supports, for hundreds of children living with muscular dystrophy and related muscle-wasting diseases across the UK.
Muscular dystrophy is a devastating, incurable and life-limiting condition that causes muscles to waste away, making children progressively weaker and preventing them from performing simple tasks that we take for granted, such as turning the pages of a book or brushing their hair. It is estimated that over 8,000 babies and children in the UK have muscular dystrophy or a related muscle wasting disease.
Jane Field, mother of 12-year-old Murray who has muscular dystrophy, said: This is a fantastic promotion that will raise much needed money for children across the UK with this devastating condition. It also gives us all a great, guilt-free reason to eat more biscuits and treat ourselves!
Ben Simpson, Tesco In-store Bakery Buyer, said:
I'm delighted that Tesco in store bakeries around the country can help contribute vital funds for the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign our Tesco Charity of the Year 2009.
The kite biscuit makes it easy for customers to get involved and make a huge difference to the lives of many children with muscular dystrophy across the UK.
