BioImagene, the leading provider of innovative digital pathology solutions, debuted the new iScan™ family of slide scanners. The iScan line, together with BioImagene's Virtuoso™ web-based software, provides an end-to-end solution for all stakeholders in the digital pathology workflow, including pathologists, histotechnologists, lab administrators and clinicians. BioImagene CEO, Dr Ajit Singh, dramatically unveiled the scanner family at 3:33 p.m. in front of a packed audience at the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology (USCAP) Annual Meeting at Booth 802.

The iScan family includes three digital slide scanners to meet the performance needs of every pathology lab.

- The iScan Solo™ is an extremely small-format, five-slide capacity scanner suitable for fast time-to-result. It is designed for smaller labs or individual pathologists.

- BioImagene designed the iScan Coreo™ for high-volume, high-throughput clinical environments. High uptime, walk-away capability and operator ease-of-use are key attributes of the instrument. It features an automated turret that allows the user to program microscope objective or magnification per slide.

- The iScan Concerto™ is an automated slide scanner allowing both brightfield and fluorescence modes in one instrument. The instrument works with all commercially available FISH tests. The scanner features an 80-slide autoloader and does not require a special facility, such as a dark room, for operation.

The iScan family is integrated with BioImagene's Virtuoso software for image analysis, organization, management and retrieval.

"Digitization of slides makes images available to the pathologist to use in ways that are simply not possible with manual microscopy," said Dr. Ajit Singh, CEO of BioImagene. "Imaging, computer and storage technology have all advanced to the point where digital pathology is available to every lab to support better decision making, workflow and, ultimately, patient care. These advances are particularly important as personalized medicine-the selection of the treatment most appropriate for the individual patient-becomes a reality in areas such as breast cancer and physicians look to pathologists for critical support."

BioImagene's innovative iScan Slide Scanners address the challenges posed by traditional microscopy by providing a powerful, highly automated and collaborative platform that supports the entire pathology workflow to bring the practice of pathology into the digital age. The iScan family of slide scanners meets diverse needs for labs of all sizes, from a single pathologist to a lab at a major medical center. They are designed to be set up quickly and may be integrated with lab or hospital information systems.

"The advent of the iScan family of instruments, plus BioImagene's robust software platforms, algorithm development and service organization, creates a one-stop shop for clinical and research labs interested in introducing digital pathology to their workflow," said Gregory Loney, vice president of instrumentation at BioImagene. "We've designed the iScan to be readily integrated with other lab technology and priced it to be available to even the smallest lab."

To view the new iScan line of automated digital slide scanners, visit the company at USCAP at Booth 802 between March 9 and 11, 2009, at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston.
